Time for Tenement House – Summer 2017

This National Trust for Scotland museum at 145 Buccleuch Street is where Miss Agnes Toward lived for almost all of her life in Garnethill. It is a fascinating view into the tenement life of Glasgow during the first half of the twentieth century. What makes this tenement flat extraordinary is that Agnes made very few changes to the flat, making it an authentic snapshot of the era. The museum has maintained this faithfully, and has helpful and friendly guides who can answer all questions on the life and times of Miss Toward.

It turns out that ScotRail/abellio are running a 2-for-1 promotion, meaning that two people can visit for only £6.50. This promotion is running until 31st October, and the opening times for Tenement House are:

1 Jul – 31 Aug, Mon-Sat, 11.00-17.00, Sun, 13.00-17.00
1 Sep – 31 Oct, daily, 13.00-17.00

To get the 2-for-1 voucher you can pick up the leaflet at Charing Cross or Glasgow Central train stations. If you haven’t seen how one of your neighbours lived all those years ago then you are in for a real treat!
