Billy’s Shop in Garnethill

If you have ever wandered down Rose Street and heard some Big Band Jazz or similar tunes nearby then you will be aware of Billy’s Shop. Located on Rose Street at Buccleuch Street this wee shop has been serving the community of Garnethill for many years.

Recently some students from the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) have put together a short film which captures a flavour of the shop and its principal employee John. If you haven’t yet seen it then you can check it out here:

There is currently some building work going on around the shop and there are containers and scaffolding preventing the shop from being seen from the street. Billy’s shop is part of the Garnethill Community and it would be a shame if they were to lose regular business simply because people mistakenly thought the shop was closed as part of the building works 😦 .

It is understood that the scaffolding and containers may be in place for a while, so you might want to pop in and say hello to John or Billy and say you’ve seen the video. You might also want to buy a newspaper or try one of the samosa’s — a real delicacy!
